I'm horrible at doing backgrounds, so I avoid them like the plague for the most part, unfortunately, sometimes you just have to draw them and what's worse: paint the freaking things!. That is until I saw Canadian background animation designer/painter Marco Bucci come up with these amazing landscapes. In this book he gives us a step-by-step painting tutorial plus a word or two regarding his advice on color theory (made easier to understand for dumb bastards like me) Totally worth checking out just for fun, but watch out, If you're not careful you might learn something.
